SECRET GARDEN

Brooke and Chase’s theatrically imposing “Secret Garden” explores the enigma of alchemy, defined by Webster as “the medieval chemical science and philosophy aiming to achieve the transmutation of base metals into gold, the discovery of a universal cure for disease, and the discovery of a means of indefinitely prolonging life.”

This collection of works portrays alchemy’s recurring cast of characters and symbols historically and cryptically used to illustrate various stages of the alchemical process, also known as the “Magnum Opus” (Great Work). This current body of work has been described as neo-gothic and mystical, inspired also by metaphysics, astrology, medieval cosmology, and the occult philosophy of the Renaissance. Alchemy is the intersection of religion, science, and mysticism, serving as both muse and methodological guide in developing this collection of artwork.

"Secret Garden" presents a symbolic, cryptic language through which one attempts to comprehend the fundamental nature of physical and spiritual existence through the patterns and archetypes inherent in nature and within ourselves. Through a meticulous and complex artistic process, Brooke and Chase evoke a sense of contemplation and intrigue with their work, inviting viewers to engage with the layered symbolism of the alchemical tradition. Using biophilic design and naturalistic qualities, “Secret Garden” encourages dialogue between art, nature, and the perennial quest for spiritual transformation and enlightenment.
